Hex shards of fate stardust12/25/2023 ![]() With 220 HP in its belt it can also take some blows as well. Thanks to its 3 energy cost, Mega Ray can be teched into many decks with no problem examples include using Manaphy-EX and Water energies for free manuverability, using Metal energies and Magearna-EX to block status, or just using naturally similar attackers with similar energy cost like Raichu XY or Zoroark BKT. Its 3 energy attack Emerald Break deals 30x the number of your Benched Pokémon, making it a natural pairing with Sky Field, able to deal 240+ damage that's accessible within a turn or two. It has the Delta Evolution Ancient Trait that made it able to evolve in its first turn, meaning you can get a Rayquaza EX, get the Spirit Link and evolve it on the same turn. ![]() Mega Rayquaza EX (make sure its the one printed in Roaring Skies - the Ancient Origins reprint is far terrible to this one) has two positive qualities that made it a fearsome attacker in its own right. If I made a list on the simplest and easiest (not necessarily the cheapest) decks for beginners to learn the Standard format, I would recommend this deck as the best, the number 1 deck for them. ![]() All it needs is a Sky Field, Mega Turbo, a DCE and the perfect partner - and it can go boom on everyone. Mega Rayquaza EX is one of those Pokémon that is simple, easy to play, very versatile and is an amazing powerhouse by itself. And it is in this fact that the legendary Shaymin EX will leave its grieved marks in the Standard format with its departure. You need to grab them slowly at this point. And with Shaymin now gone, deck speed will significantly slow down as you can't just put a Shaymin down to get the cards. It is that good, as it is once one of the most expensive commonly available cards (singles) still printed in modern TCG history. In short, Shaymin EX is amazing, but it has checks so its not overpowered, and so people loved it to the point that its demand outstripped the supply available. It doesn't have free Retreat as well, so you can't just retreat it back when its stuck in the Active slot. Pokémon such as Greninja BKP, Alolan Muk (SM Base Set) and Garbodor BKP also keeps Shaymin in check, as well as several Trainers like Hex Maniac and Silent Lab by shutting off Set Up. It is also useless upon having its Ability activated, as Sky Return deals nearly negligible damage. As it is a Pokémon-EX, it gives up 2 prizes when it is knocked out, and with its very low 110 HP count it is a prime target for Lysandre dragging to win games. The best thing is, despite its potentially game momentum swinging properties, it is not broken. With the current meta climate, where players love to burn their hand to achieve the fastest setup possible, Shaymin EX basically ensures that you will never run out of cards in any stage of the game. It allows you to draw up until you have 6 cards in your hand, which is more than its competition despite it being usable once per Shaymin card. There has been competition for the best draw engine from the likes of Octillery and Oranguru, but Shaymin still come out as the best, heads and all.Īll this is possible thanks to its Ability, Set Up. Shaymin EX is pretty much the standard in the Standard format, for no actual competitive deck during its prime never used it, and no deck neglected it during its lifetime, even to this very day. This I think, will be the biggest loss we will experience in the format.
